When people think of Boston they don’t usually think Hollywood. They think Harvard, the Irish, history, etc etc. Over the years, though, Boston has become pretty popular with Hollywood filmmakers. They like the stories, the locations, and the diverse talent pool. Let’s check out some examples of Hollywood’s influence in Boston.:
1. Filming Locations:
Our architecture and varied landscapes have made it an attractive setting for many films. From historic neighborhoods to modern cityscapes, Boston has a wide range of visually stunning backdrops. Films such as "The Departed" (2006), directed by Martin Scorsese, used many of Boston's iconic locations, including the State House and Beacon Hill, to create an authentic atmosphere. Other cool examples include "Good Will Hunting" (1997), Mystic River, Ted, and "The Social Network" (2010).
2. Film Festivals:
Boston has several renowned film festivals that attract industry professionals and cinephiles from around the world. The Boston International Film Festival, founded in 2003, has become a platform for emerging filmmakers to showcase their work. Notable actors such as Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Mark Wahlberg, and Amy Adams are from here and often incorporate their hometown in their work. Directors like the Farrelly brothers who are behind the movies "There's Something About Mary" (1998) and "Dumb and Dumber" (1994), are from also from here.
