From The Beatles, to New Kids On The Block, to NSYNC, boy bands have consistently driven fans crazy. New Edition, born in Roxbury in the 80s - specifically Orchard Park - is Boston’s first.

Technically, New Edition formed in the late 1970s and sky rocketed to fame in the 80s. Comprised of talented young kids the group quickly became famous for their harmonious vocals, and cool dance moves. What was really cool, is how New Edition infused elements of pop, R&B, and soul into their music, which created a really unique sound.

The Songs

"Candy Girl": This debut single introduced the world to New Edition. Released in 1983, "Candy Girl" became an instant hit.

"Cool It Now": Released in 1984, upbeat track showcased New Edition's growth as artists. "Cool It Now" topped the charts and solidified the group's status as rising stars in the music industry.

"Mr. Telephone Man": "Mr. Telephone Man" resonated with audiences worldwide. This 1984 hit demonstrated New Edition's ability to deliver heartfelt and relatable songs.

Behind every successful group, there is often a visionary mentor who discovers and nurtures their talent. For New Edition, that was none other than Barry Gordy. The Boys Now

  2. Bobby Brown: After leaving New Edition, Bobby Brown pursued a highly successful solo career.
