Boston Drone Film Festival Goes Virtual
Are you interested in drones? You may have heard of the Boston Drone Film Festival from last year’s launch. This year it will be held virtually on March 19th-20th. BDFF is an international film festival that displays the film works of drone filmmakers, photographers, and 360 creatives.
As drones became more popular a couple of years ago, using them for filmmaking became common. Many people today watch shows, movies, and videos that have images captured by drones and might not even know it. Getting ariel shots or even following someone walking on the street is made possible by using drones. The popularity of using drones for filmmaking was recognized and created into the BDFF by Jovan Tanasijevic, co-founder and director at Above Summit, a local production studio specializing in drone cinematography. If you aren’t familiar with Above Summit, you might recognize some of the film companies they have filmed for-- AMC, NBC, or Netflix.
Above Summit was inspired to create the film festival because they were one of the first drone video production companies in the New England area. By creating a large platform for drone filmmakers, they hope to inspire the next generation.
The first day of the festival will be the film and photo screening followed by awards and giveaways. It will be available to live steam for FREE. The second day will be more of a learning experience with the opportunity to attend drone camp ($50 paid tuition includes 12 workshops, 3 panels, and 1 demonstration) Tickets for the learning experience available for purchase here.
This year the film festival will have 12 judges that are all established minds within the production, writing, directing (etc.) industries.
The categories that the festival will have are Documentary, Landscape, Urban, Sports, Showreel, Single Take, Cinematic FPV, Freestyle FPV, Film Editing, 360 Video, 360 Photography, Landscape Photography, Nature Photography. Also will have a special category for student films.
The winner of each category will be awarded a prize. There will be one grand prize winner and they will be awarded a 7 day trip to Ecuador!
